FAQ
Difference between Raised garden beds & Planter boxes
The planter box, with its enclosed bottom design, is perfect for growing smaller quantities of herbs, flowers, and vegetables on your patio, balcony, deck, or stoep. In contrast, the bottomless raised garden beds are primarily suited for larger gardens that require more growing space.
Do they have drainage holes?
Each planter box is equipped with two drainage holes—one on each side at the bottom of the wooden side panels.
Is the timber treated?
We build our frames using CCA-treated structural pine.
What type of metal do you use?
We construct our planter boxes using corrugated Zincalume metal. The corrugated profile adds structural strength and stability, preventing any bowing or bending under the weight of soil and plants
Won’t the metal rust?
The concept behind these planter boxes was to minimize the timber’s exposure to soil. Unlike pine, which degrades much faster when in contact with soil, corrugated metal provides superior durability.
Zincalume, known for its resistance to rust and weathering, performs exceptionally well even in harsh climates. It combines the strength of steel with the corrosion resistance of zinc and aluminum, resulting in unmatched durability and longevity compared to most other materials.
Should I line my planter boxes?
While not mandatory, you may consider using bidum or 250-micron plastic lining to significantly prolong the lifespan of the planter boxes.
Do I have to assemble myself?
All items are flat-packed and strapped for easy shipping. Assembly instructions are emailed to you once your order has been collected by the courier. The assembly process is straightforward and can be easily completed by anyone.
